Biography

Lorenzo Stacchio is a Research Fellow in Computer Science at the Department of Political Sciences, Communication and International Relations (SPOCRI) of the University of Macerata, where he works within the VRAI — Vision, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Bologna and, since July 2026, the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor in Information Processing Systems (IINF-05/A).

His research sits at the intersection of eXtended Reality and Artificial Intelligence — a combination he frames as eXtended Artificial Intelligence (XRAI). It brings computer vision, generative models and immersive interfaces together into systems that support human activity, and spans creative industries, cultural heritage, manufacturing, education, sport and retail. This work has appeared in venues including IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications, Computers in Human Behavior, IEEE VR and IEEE ISMAR, and received a Best Paper Award at IEEE VR 2025.

He is Associate Editor of The Visual Computer (Springer), organises international workshops on agentic AI and human-centred XR, and teaches across undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programmes in Macerata, Ancona and Milan.
